Residents “flip out” over improvements to The Broadway

It’s not often money is spent on our roads, and when we do, we complain.

Long term resident Roy of The Quadrant states,

I have three cars, two of which I don’t use regularly. With parking reduced on The Broadway where am I supposed to leave them?

It’s a valid question, and we must ask ourselves how our local taxi companies will be affected.

Sue, a pensioner, has already lodged a complaint in relation to widening of the pavement.

She says,

Establishments are already taking advantage of wide pavements to scatter “trip hazards” such as chairs and tables, and this will be inevitable once The Broadway works are completed.

Many male residents who have grown up in St Ives over the past five decades will be sad to see the local 1/4 mile drag strip replaced with pavers, but other strips are already being tested on Hill Rise and Hemingford Road.

A local spokesman suggests we should remain open minded as a community, and look forward to future benefits from the works.

It is expected, once traffic cones are removed in 2027, new businesses will begin to replace the multitude of boarded-up shops. It is likely incentives and grants will be considered to promote new businesses, specifically targeting hairdressers, card shops, and charity shops.

What do you hope the upgrades to The Broadway will bring?
