Residents of St Ives are on edge after yet another crash on the corner of Ramsey Road and The Waits.
On 16th August, only two years after the last incident at the spot, a car ploughed into the set of bollards outside The Mews House, raising fresh concerns about road safety in the area.
This isn’t just a one-off incident – locals say they’ve seen enough dangerous driving to know this stretch of road is a ticking time bomb.
Despite a 20mph speed limit, enforcement seems to be more myth than reality. One resident summed it up as “Residents and visitors to St Ives are put at risk.” The near-miss with pedestrians during last week’s crash only adds to the worry.
Almost two years ago, a driver managed to take a detour into the river at The Waits, requiring a crane to fish the car out.
Police confirmed they got the call around 12:45 PM on the day of the crash but didn’t show up since there were no injuries. Still, the lack of enforcement and repeated incidents have left residents wondering when more will be done to keep the streets safe.
For now, the bollards are down, and the concerns are up. Let’s hope the next crash doesn’t involve more than just damaged poles.
